2005/10/21 Summarize Result

Early Thursday morning, we woke up and I helped Oded take the big TV to his new place. After the YES and air-conditioning technicians came, he took me to the Con grounds where we parted once more, Karen having left to her classes earlier.

2005/10/20 Mis/Disused Morning?

Getting up at about 8am, we went to Oded and Karen’s new apartment where I helped them put in the doors and stuff. The place looks very good but the landlady sounds and pretty much acts like my old Bible teacher. Nasty. Karen proceeded to her Math studies while Oded went off to work and I was dropped at the front of the Eshkol building for the second day of Icon.

2005/10/19 First Thing’s Off

I woke up today feeling lousy. Just stay awake for a few hours (From noon until about three o’clock) and then you’ll leave, but I had one more guard duty to do so to hell with it all. At about 3pm, Oded and Karen arrived at my base (after some intense map reading) and picked me up. I had to show them a way to turn around otherwise we might have ended up on Phares but in the end we made it home, to my parents. We decided to skip Icon’s opening event and Tim Powers’ first lecture and eat dinner at home instead. After a quick game of Gazillionaire (about one round), we left for Tel-Aviv around 20:00. We arrived just in time to be told that “No! There are no more tickets for Serenity! Now quit bothering me!” by the lovely and giving cashier. So we walked around a bit, looking at people gathering up their stands. We bothered the huge manga guys, browsed through some merchandise (The Cowboy Bebop playing cards are cool but are all cardboard :( ) and we talked to Yuda with his huge book shelves. That pretty much summed up our first day at Icon 2005. Very fulfilling.

היום הייתי בכנס משתחררים בתל-אביב וראיתי שוב פעם עדות לדרך הפעולה המפגרת של הצבא. הם השתלטו על שני אולמות: אחד של 1100 מבקרים בשביל התערוכה ואחד של 700 מבקרים בשביל ההרצאה. אני הגעתי מוקדם והספקתי להיכנס להרצאה הראשונה ואז לשוטט בתערוכה בלי להרגיש יותר מדי כמו דג טונה בקופסת סרדינים. אבל כשענבל (ידידה טובה שלי) הגיעה ואירחתי לה חברה, מהר מאוד גילינו שיש הרבה יותר מדי אנשים שמגיעים ורוצים להיכנס לאותם שני אולמות מסכנים. ככה יצא שאת ההרצאה של 12:15 היא פספסה בגלל שאמרו לה להגיע ב-12:30 ואת ההרצעה של 14:00 היא פספסה בגלל שלא היה מקום. וכשניסינו להיכנס שוב לתערוכה אז היה צריך את “מלתעות החיים” כדי לפעור מעבר דרך כל האנשים. בסוף גם מועדון יותר קיפל את הדוכן שלו ואורנג’ הפסיקה לחלק נרתיקים חביבים לטלפונים. בכל מקרה, סיכום האירוע הוא שיש לי הרבה חומר לקרוא. הרבה הרבה חומר לקרוא. מה שכן, החלטתי כבר על כמה דברים. דבר ראשון, אני חייב לעשות פסיכומטרי. זה הדבר הראשון שאני מתכוון לעשות. אבל נראה לי שאני אקרא קצת במחברות הישנות שלי, ארענן קצת פיזיקה ומתמטיקה. דבר שני, איפה ללמוד? אני כבר דיי בטוח שאני רוצה להמשיך למחשבים. תכנות וכנראה כל מה שקשור לזה. אבל איפה שווה ללמוד את זה. צמצמתי את האפשרויות לטכניון שנראה לי מציעים שם חזק מאחורי התואר, מתקנים טובים, סביבה טובה וחוגים משלימים. לעומת זאת, דרבי מציעים גם שם חזק של אוניברסיטה מחו”ל וגם מפרטים הכי הרבה על מה שהולכים ללמד ויותר מזה, מציעים תואר עם נסיון שזה מאוד חשוב. מה דעתכם? חוץ מזה, עבר עוד שבוע בצבא. עוד Continue Reading →

2005/09/24 Reinstated and Renewed

My site is back up and this is my first post. Now I have a system that actually makes sense thanks to my brother. It is now an official blog, as much as a blog can be official. Well, I’ll be uploading the old pages soon enough and keeping them as they are for a ‘How-things-used-to-be’ look. Well, what about me? I’m almost out of the army (only two months left, yes!) and we’re now located at Golan River which is the southern defensive line in Ramat HaGolan. Should be quieter than the Gaza strip. Anyway, I just came back from my uncle’s birthday party. It was cool but there was a whole bunch of people I didn’t know. At least all of the closer family was there (well, anyone still in the country). And Oded and Karen was there and we talked at length about diving and trips abroad. It was great seeing everyone again and if you’re reading this, the food was excellent yet again. Plus, I just watched The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (but not in 3-D) and it was quite good. I’ve read that people mostly dissed it but it was actually a pretty good movie. Considering it came out of the mind of a 7 year-old, it was very fleshed-out and organized. A bit predictable at times but still… good, clean fun.
