My first baptism into computer games was on the VIC-20 by Commodore. My brother and I would sit down with the latest issue of Run magazine and enter in line after line of code to play the latest “cool” computer game it featured. After hours of typing, debugging typos, and figuring out which circles were o’s and which were zeroes, we’d actually get to play some maze game or Pong clone. We saved and loaded programs onto a cassette tape. And you thought games today took a while to load.
I can already hear my kid asking, “Dad, what’s a cassette tape?”
