Work Begins

Well, some of you (you know who you are) have expressed some displeasure at the fact that I came here to do something but I haven’t started doing it. Well, be displeased no more.

First of all, after I departed from the computer yesterday, we had one more activity for the evening and then what they call here “Canteen”. Which is, everybody goes to the small place beneath the A&R center and just have fun. There’s music and snacks and foosball tables and ping-pong tables and it’s basically lots of fun.

They kicked us out at around 22:00 so Jenna, Andy and me went to the Rec Hall to play basketball. I tried to teach them that Call & Shoot game but Roi (The trek specialist from Israel) came in followed by Anna, Jen, Einav (The other trek specialist from Israel) and another guy who’s name escapes me at the moment, and we started playing Basket ball 4 on 4. As time went by, Roi left and Tom jumped in and by the time me and Einav left, Andy was still missing every 3 shot, Jenna was hitting every single one of them and Anna seemed to be enjoying the hell out despite the fact Tom was ruling the court and Andy was trying to frighten her all the time (Anna – small girl, Andy – big guy).

I escorted Einav to sign in (We have to sign in before we go to sleep) and I just saw a squirel, in the staff lounge, running about beneath sofas and closets. Oh, never mind. That probably happens all the time. Anyway, I went with Einav up to the girl bunk line then headed back to take a shower and go to sleep. The funny thing is is that you travel half the way across the world and find someone to talk to… from Israel.

Anyway, this morning, after breakfast, Tony, the owner and director, showed us, the security team (Ok, I’ll stop with the commas now), around the grounds and what our specific duties will be. We went all the way around and behind the camp and I, personally, feel that there is not enough seperation between the camp grounds and the private houses around it and that they sometimes get too close. I mean, I’m sitting alone now in the Rox (The staff lounge) and about 50 meters to my right are a bunch of private households. And the lounge is open and there are computers and a TV here and everything. Maybe it’s just that there is much less fear here than there is in Israel. I think I like it.

Later, I went to take my swim test, sorry… “Swim Experience” and I qualified for “Deep” which wasn’t too hard but reminded me I need to get back into shape. After that we were physically shown some games we can play with the campers when we have nothing to do. It was quite fun. After lunch I found out I need to teach Gilad how to play pool and then we had a session about bullying between kids.

So, right now, I have less than two hours to take a shower (still have sand in my shorts) and report to guard duty until 12am. I’ll just go look for the official rules to pool first…
