A Fan Call for HTTP

Well, this appeared on my brother’s blog today. Unfortunately, he was very poor in his post as to explain what “this” is all about. What is it about? Well, apparently, if you enter a botched up URL (http//www.something.com) on your web browser, be it even Mozilla or Firefox, it will shortly lead you to Microsoft’s page. Do not attempt to adjust your browser! This is not a problem with it but with Google. Why Google? Good question. Apparently, if Firefox or Mozilla can not locate the address you were addressing then it just performs a quick “I’m Feeling Lucky” search in Google and takes you there. Most fucked-uply, because of Google’s page ranking system, Microsoft is the number one on the list and the W3 Consortium is only second. What should we do? You should post things about HTTP, with links attached, that has nothing to do with Microsoft. Do it now, right now! Go to message boards, forums, blogs, comment sites and do it. If there is enough links linking back to other pages, then Microsoft’s rating should diminish. Go for it! Seize the Day!

The Weirdness of Geek

Here’s a letter segment I cut off of a discussion on the Dark Dungeons e-mail discussion group… “Yesterday I was talking to some neighbors and the topic of “Lord of the Rings” came up. I took the opportunity to mention my hobby: RPGs. The response shocked me. They said to me “Hey isn’t that for nerds and weird people?” I ended up showing my neighbors some of my D&D books and explained to them how the game works, then I asked them if they still felt it was geeky. They said “No”. I think the major problem we gamers have is that we are closet gamers. When asked at work what our hobbies are we choke up, feeling that if we revealed what we do for fun we will be ridiculed or scorned. WE seriously need to get out of the closet. There is nothing wrong with our hobby, trust me there are much worse things we can be doing.”

Compulsory Update

I’ve been running a game for the past week at The Orc forums. That’s the first game I, myself, am totally responsible for. It’s an attempt to recreate the Troubled Moon. So far, it’s doing slowly. I’ve gotten everybody around the starting town and so far I’ve got five players which is a very good start. I’ve also managed to get the Chest as a center subject and gather everyone around it and the fact that Dorus is in prison (i.e. Obstacle number 1). Well, everyond except Dragoran and Nihau’s characters which will soon encounter the Hunter and the Wolf (i.e. Obstacle number 2). Other than that, life’s pretty ordinary. I’m settling in my new job. Not a bad year to be put in that place in our department store. Hannuka plus a New Year weekend. Which means I’ll be busy. Taking over a position instead of a very appreciated worker and the stock count thrown into all of it, on a saturday. Great for me. But I’ve found a Chronicles of Narnia quiz.
